tinyhttpd に倣って AddType text/xml .rdf と AddType text/xml .xsl を設定したところ
きちんと表示されました。（楽なことが好きなので .htaccess で設定）。

散歩等で頭をリフレッシュさせるのは効果的。あれだけ悩んでいたのがものの 10 分少々で解決です。
まー、AddType くらい最初に気づけという話もありますが。
